Wines of Distinction

What makes Waters wines different?

The globalization of wine has contributed to a growing trend to produce highly extracted wines. This wine style stems from overly ripe fruit and resulting high alcohol levels, plus an over use of new French oak barrels. We enjoy and work to emulate an “old world” style of wine, which offers ripe flavors without unnecessarily high alcohol levels and always incorporates a restrained use of oak. We employ only those “new world” techniques that help us create wines of elegance and balance.

How do we consistently make wines of high quality?

By remaining a “family oriented” boutique winery, we are focused on releasing small lots of distinctive wines that reflect the true nature of each vintage and the effects of natural forces on each vineyard site. We are dedicated to working closely with our growers and developing estate vineyards in an effort to constantly improve quality. By staying small, and employing passionate and qualified staff, we ensure that our wines receive the maximum attention and care possible. As well, we are constantly tasting and comparing our wines with benchmark wines of the world, which helps shape our style.

What is our strategy and approach in the vineyard?

We believe whole-heartedly that “wine is made in the vineyard.” A vineyard’s unique location, its “cépage” or the blend of grape varieties, and the constant communication between the grower and winemaker are all extremely important factors towards achieving the highest levels of quality in the resulting wine. With an eye towards future generations, we insist that sustainable growing practices be followed in all vineyards from which we source fruit. The aggregate of these factors help showcase each vineyard’s unique terroir. To that end, we constantly seek out the very best vineyards in and around the Walla Walla Valley make wines of distinct character that we enjoy drinking ourselves.
